Good Morning... Love thy neighbor? Or Sour grapes?

This morning is about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. I about froze in my jean shorts, t-shirt and jacket. Today we are already at 57 and tomorrow they say it will be 90 for a high. What a roller coaster of a weather we seem to be having.

Yesterday went fairly well farm wise. We finally got the tractor tire fixed at around noon, I went and got chicken feed and got the 3rd degree from our Mennonite neighbors. We kept the house a secret as long as possible from them, until one night with one came rooming in on his 4-wheeler posing the question of :
"Just WHAT are you doing done there?!?" My grandmother was talking to him... "We are getting a house" Here are my thoughts of what I wanted to say... "What do you THINK we are doing?"

"Is it a basement, can I look at the hole?" Umm Sure go ahead. "Oh why not, after all you all think this is your property anyway right?!"

"What are you going to put on it?" A modular house. "A Deluxe Colman (tent)"

" Isn't your house still good, well maybe not the back half but surly the rock part still is." No not really... "NO! the roof leaks so much there is at least 5 gallons of water on the floor that's NOT caught and on the bed also, and I don't care for snakes in the kitchen or pantry, NOR do I care for mold which IMHO is making me sick"

And so forth and so on... I know I am a snot. But our neighbors have never been neighborly. They resent us being here... As one of them told our contractor who by the way is SUPER!!!! "Why don't they just sell out and leave?!" L's response was... "Maybe because this is their home??" To that the Mennonites had nothing to say. It's not like they haven't had 30 years in which to buy this place. When my mother almost died from sepsis 3 or 4 years back, once they found out she was in the hospital with the possibility of dying we had 4 offers to buy the farm with in 2 hours. Not can we help or what can we do, but it was like now that she's out of the way we can get the place.

I can't help it, it hurts. To know your neighbors don't like you just for the simple fact they can't afford your land. They have gone so far as to have it appraised with out us knowing it. They don't care if their animals get over on us and eat our grass for months on end. If it were me (and it has been) I would get them home ASAP and make sure to fix the fence where they get out at. Sigh

I try to get along with them, answer their questions sweetly even if I'm thinking snitty remarks to say. Just like yesterday... You all know I have changed feed companies from the Mennonites to an English (as they call us) mill. So they start asking me yesterday while over at the feed store Do you like where your getting your feed??? Yes I do... Are you still using cotton? Yes we still are... Have you changed it any? Yes we are feeding some hominy now... Oh so it cheapened it up... Yes it did and since their corn is 8.25 (a hundred)... I'm saving even more. Well that shut him up. The last corn I got from them was 10.80!!!! yes that was bulk price. And it felt good to say that in front of a bunch of people. I know I know I know... I'm just terrible...
