How to find, lose, find, catch, and lose a calf...

This calf is now 6 days old. I saw the little darling when he was just born, trying to nurse his mother. So I thought I'll just leave the two of them and get him in the morning. It was a wicked hot day after all.

Next morning could I find him??? NO... The next day? NO again... The next day after we had taken mommy dearest to be milked (this sometimes helps to draw them out of hiding) we find him! HOT DOG!!! The happiness is soon ended since a 4 day old calf who has not had my tender loving care... (BG) will be just a wee bit wild.

HA! I say HA! This creature is more than wild, he is NUTS. He takes off at full speed and runs through a fence and keeps going. OK BACK to the drawing board... I decide to leave him until he comes out of hiding and wants someone for food... meaning the 60 some odd moo juice makers, who would be more than willing to feed him.

SOOOO Yesterday morning who shows up with the cows???? Yes that's right... Mr.Nuts himself. So I go out to get the little feller... after chasing him out the lot and almost into the barn, I catch him, drag him kicking and mooing (screaming for a baby calf) to the barn... Drag is such a nasty word though... lets just say I help him to the barn.

Anyway I tied him up and his is having the biggest fit you've ever seen! I mean we have had some wild calves in are time but nothing like this. I've been kicked black and blue by calves trying to hold on to them, but this one came at me with his front feet in the air. SHEESH! I am just trying to keep him alive.

Well this is how it ends... I've lost him... Literally... Last night he managed to untie the knot I had made and took off out of the barn with his blue halter still around his neck. I think he has anger issues with me. :) Anyway I couldn't find him last night... so I'm hoping today I'll be able to yet AGAIN catch him and this time tie him into a pen.
