My Favorite Christmas Gift..

With Christmas just around the corner, I thought I would share what my favorite Christmas gift was. It should be a country song...

Back when I was a kid we didn't have much money. As always we always made due. One Christmas though milk prices were down (of course), feed was high (would you expect other wise?), and the moos (this was BEFORE the Jerseys) more than likely weren't milking well.

We had managed to get a tree and a few gifts (most that would be taken back to the store the week after...). We had always had ham or turkey for Christmas dinner. Well that year we couldn't afford either. I think we were going to have steaks (we raised our own beef and still do)... anyway that year our milk was going to be picked up on Christmas day... After all the milk haulers don't get holidays off either. He always came in the mornings... well before dinner.

That year was a hard year for everyone... we didn't expect anything from him. But that year... he had left us a canned HAM! My grandmother brought it in and I think my mom cried... and it's the only thing I remember that year. The toys mattered little... But the smell of that ham cooking and the kindness of a milk hauler will forever be in my heart and mind.

Thank you to: The Present Professor who encouraged the writing of this blog post because of a contest. I now have a warm fuzzy feeling and a reminder of the true meaning of giving and receiving.
