Two new calves...

Well we have had 2 new ones... A heifer and a bull. So much for breaking our heifer record. He is HUGE though. He is so big that he is having a hard time adjusting to the outside world. So far he can't stand on his own. Granted as of right now he is just 24 hours old, but since he should have been up with in a few hours. Some baby calf "therapy" might be in order.

My blackberries I planted this spring are trying to bloom!!!!! I was so shocked and thrilled!!!! Even the red raspberries are going to be having some fruit. The garden is growing like wild fire. And soon we will be having zucchini. I'm not a huge fan of squash but I can handle it. And every time I get bottles for the babies, I'll go and munch on pea pods while they are warming. Oh the joy of all things you can grow.

Which leads me to another thought. And I have even asked my family this question. If I/we would have to buy all of our meat (we grow our own beef and chicken and pork when we can) in the store, would you become a vegetarian? We all answered yes. For me knowing what is in the meat today it scares me. We won't buy chicken at all. If y'all knew what they fed those birds! ICKY!!!! You can't even trust eggs or the organic birds. Lets say you wanted to buy cage free eggs and such. Did you know that they only have to be allowed so much time to get OUT of their cage a day? And Range Free... Now that sounds good doesn't it? HA This only means that they are out of their cage/house for a minimum of 4 hours a day. I think... It's something like that. Right now the exact number isn't coming to me. NOW on the other hand there are farmers out there who do care for the health of other people. So if at all possible people eat grass-fed everything. Or just go to http://www.westonaprice.org and http://www.eatwild.com . I'll get off my soapbox now.

Have a good one everyone!!!!
